Introduction

This document describes the hardware and software prerequisites for installing and running EuroRunner.

EuroRunner is designed to run on several major versions of third party software including operating systems, databases and other software.

Major versions are indicated below, followed by the minimum minor version required by EuroRunner for that major version. It is assumed that any later versions of third party software will retain backward compatibility; where this is not the case GMSL will provide upgrades to EuroRunner accordingly.

Database Server

EuroRunner has been developed to run using an Oracle database and is accessed using COM+.

The database package dbms_stats must be installed on the database to allow statistics to be performed on the database objects. The Oracle Job processes should be set up to allow database jobs to be run. Java Runtime Environment must be installed (Oracle 8 only, for Oracle 9 and above it is installed automatically).

Application Server

Where the database server is UNIX based there is also a need for a separate Windows machine to host COM+ and EuroRunner’s data layer.

NB For host operating systems with Windows 2003:

The application server will prevent COM+ calls from a client machine unless the application server is configured to be the role of Application Server via the server configuration tool in the administrative tools.

Network

The network protocol used is TCP/IP for both client to application server and application server to database server.

The ports used are:

1521	Oracle listener service (can be different if required.)
1035	COM+
135	DCOM
80	HTTP (only required for ISIS interface)
25	SMTP (only required for notices sent by email)

Maximum network traffic between the client and application server (single user wuth continuous usage) is:
