Operational Details
There are many quirks and customs in each network that operations systems need to cope with. Our unique position of having direct operations experience together with systems development mean that we are able to build operations systems that can handle these issues. An example of this is 23/25 hour days and how these are treated in different networks - some keep the same end of day quantities and change the hourly rates while others keep the same hourly rates and change the end of day quantities, some manage the hour change within the gas day while others make the hour change take effect at the end of the gas day. To generate accurate nominations an operations system needs to cope with these differences.
Benefits of using a System
Having a formal operations system has many advantages.
- You can simply add new contracts, points, journeys or networks without any need for reworking.
- Because the data is shown in a consistent, standard format anyone can come to the system and immediately see exactly what nominations have been or need to be made.
- A comprehensive record of what made up the transit nominations means that it is simple to get the system to generate contract and trade allocations based on transit allocations. You can also automate other tasks like calculation of Zeebrugge Hub penalties.
- Interfaces mean that you can use the system to run cross checks to make sure that your transit nominations are consistent with your traded positions and are within capacity and contractual limites.
- With all data held in a database it is straightforward to get data for reporting purposes.
All these add up to time savings, a reduction in risk through cross checks and the potential to maximise opportunities.
